We’ve compiled a list of the most frequent questions that we have received over my career. It’s normal and encouraged for clients to ask many questions when choosing to work with a licensed Therapist. Here are some answers to the questions we receive the most. Do you offer sliding scale rates?

What type of therapy do you practice?

At POP counseling, we primarily offer therapy that draws from various evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT).

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors. It helps individuals develop coping skills, challenge irrational beliefs, and replace maladaptive thoughts with healthier ones.

  • Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT): REBT is a form of CBT that emphasizes identifying and disputing irrational beliefs that lead to emotional distress. It encourages individuals to examine the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, with the goal of developing more rational and adaptive ways of thinking and responding to life's challenges.

  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT): SFBT is a goal-oriented, strengths-based approach that focuses on finding solutions to current problems rather than dwelling on past issues. It helps individuals identify their strengths and resources, set achievable goals, and develop practical strategies to create positive change in their lives. SFBT is often used to address specific concerns or to help individuals build on their existing strengths to achieve their desired outcomes.

How long does therapy take?

The duration of therapy can vary significantly depending on individual circumstances. Some individuals may benefit from short-term therapy focused on addressing specific issues or learning coping skills, which may last several weeks to a few months. Others may require longer-term therapy to work through deeper-rooted issues or to maintain progress over time.

Ultimately, the length of therapy is tailored to meet the unique needs and goals of each client. Together, you and your clinician will regularly assess progress and discuss any adjustments needed to ensure that therapy is effective and supportive of your journey towards healing and personal growth.
